My 5yr old has 3 spots of somthing on his left leg. I had kids in my class with Exema and thats what it reminds me of but he's only had this problem once before and it went away after a few months. It was only one spot then so I didn't worry. But now I'm worried. It just started snowing here in Alaska so I'm wondering if its really bad dry skin or what? I saw one on my husbands arm before. Do any of you guys know what it might be? Should I take him to the doctor? Its red and kinda bubbly. Not gross pussey bubbly, just alittle bubbly. There all about the size of a quater. Please help! Thanks!!!

Reply:This sounds like a classic case of Eczema. The skin condition tends to get worse in the winter because of the cold temperatures and low humdity. Eczema is an abnormal reaction that your immune system is causing on the skin which can occur sporadically. There are times where it can appear as if the condition goes away, but it really doesn't. There are medications that help suppress the irritation and reaction that your skin has from Eczema and this can give you periods of suppression where you don't have any symptoms. It is common for the skin to become scaley and have white bumps with flakey skin. I would take him to the doctor and get him diagnosed.
If it is eczema, there are creams and ointments that can be used such as Elidel, Triamcinolone, Clobetasol, Betamethasone, etc. All of the above with exception to the Elidel are corticosteroids. They work by supressing the skin's ability to to react and become inflamed.
Hope this helps, stay healthy.
Reply:My mind goes to ringworm, or a similar fungus. Rule of thumb, any skin condition, no matter how insignificant, should be evaluated by a doctor.
