My 4 month old son has some kind of rash or irritation on his left cheek. At first we just thought it was baby acne but over the last month he scratches it all the time and sometimes becomes red and inflamed with all these little bumps. I cant tell you how many times a day he scratches it with his hand. Anyone know what it could be or how to help it? Any one had this problem? thanks
Baby skin irritation???
It's infant eczema. Put Hydrocortizone 1% (off the counter) twice a day (just a light touch). Then put Eucerine or Avveno dry skin creme throughout the day, as often as you can remember doing it. If it doesn'st get better in 2-3 days, and still look like raw and red and bleeding, there may be some infection due to open skin, then you need to see a doctor to get anti-bacterial cream also.
Reply:Eczema, get some over the counter cortizone cream. It's gentle enough for infants.
Reply:put some hydrocortozone cream on the spot. My son had the same type of thing for about 2 weeks and i just put it on there a couple times a day and it was gone in 3 days
Reply:I don't know what it is but, it's not baby acne. Baby acne doesn't itch and it also occurs when the baby is about a month old or even younger. I just htought of something that might be causing your baby's irritation thought -- does he often sleep with his left cheek on the pillow? And drool? And it gets red and sore and wet? I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it's from and it just doesn't get a chance to clear up because it just keeps happening. I'm not sure what might help -- even just vaseline to keep it from getting wet while he sleeps and see if it keeps it from getting worse within a few days and maybe then it can start to heal. ??
Reply:it was probably baby acne at first and now it is infected... take him to the doc because it can spread
Reply:It could be a yeast infection. when my son was that little, he got them on his cheeks if he drooled a lot. If it hasn't been happening long, it could also be that he is teething. When infants teeth, they produce an enzyme in their saliva that helps to break down the tissue, allowing the teeth to come in easier. When my son was little, he used to get nasty rashes on his back side %26amp; the doctor said it was because he was teething. I thought that was a little strange, but as time went on, I realized that he cut a tooth (or two or three or four) towards the end of every episode of rash. Take your baby to the doctor, and if they come up blank, mention this to them. A mixture of clotrimazole, hydrocortizone, and desitin orriginal formula used to do the trick. Good luck!
