Cat dry skin irritation?

lucky has irritated skin under his arm i dont know if he is licking it or biting is it contagious

Cat dry skin irritation?
My mothers cat gets dry skin so bad she gets open sored this is due to the home being heated with wood heat. Try using baby oil rubbed into her skin. It seems to help her cat
Reply:It might be if it's a parasite or fungus. If it just looks dry and flaky, then it could be the same dry skin we people tend to get. You can get kitty skin emollient (it's like an oil) at petsmart or petco that can help with that.

If it's red and irritated, bleeding, or scabby, I'd take him to the vet to be sure it isn't contagious.
Reply:Probably not but if you can bathe him put him in a oatmeal bath.it will stop the itch and handle the rash too.
Reply:It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a vet look at it, just in case. But if it's just dry skin, you'll see improvement if you feed canned food and/or add some fish oil to his diet.
